Students from 11 Wisconsin schools will visit the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus on Saturday to compete in the first regional National Science Bowl competition for Wisconsin middle schoolers.
The teams hail from five counties: Columbia, Dane, Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Waukesha.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Science Bowl is one of the nation’s largest science competitions. Each regional and national event is a fast-paced question-and-answer competition focused on math and science. The teams include four students, an alternate student, and a coach. Two teams compete in each round of the competition in a round-robin, double-elimination tournament.
The team that wins this regional competition will go on an all-expenses-paid trip to compete at the National Science Bowl finals in Washington, D.C. in April.
This event is possible thanks to support from the Wisconsin section of the American Chemical Society, the Department of Chemistry, and the College of Engineering.
Members of the campus community are invited to watch the semifinal and final rounds of the competition, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in 1610 Engineering Hall.
