How do you write a musical in three weeks?

University Theatre will present the Tony-nominated smash hit [title of show]from September 9-18.
The show is a madcap must-see for those who know and love Broadway - or who want to know Broadway - and want a glimpse into the creative process of putting a show together.
[title of show] tells the story of two struggling young artists who decide to write an original work for a musical theater competition even through the deadline is only three weeks away.
After deciding that all the good topics have already been tackled with ballads and kicklines, the two decide to write a musical about writing a musical.
In the tradition of play-within-a-play hits like Kiss Me Kate, Noises Off!, and The Producers, [title of show] pushes the boundaries of where real life begins and ends.
The musical follows the evolution of [title of show] from its smash debut at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in the fall of 2004, to its successful Off-Broadway run at the Vineyard Theatre in February 2006, to its debut on Broadway in July 2008.
The show earned creator Hunter Bell a 2006 Obie Award, a Drama League nomination, and a 2008 Tony nomination for Best Book of a Musical.
Additionally, the actors chronicled their odyssey from theatre festival to Broadway in a series of fifteen youtube videos entitled "The [title of show] show."
The creative team for University Theatre's production includes Professor David Furumoto as director, music director Jakob Aebly, Scenic Designer Katy Lai, Costume Designer Katie Gray, and lighting designer Erik S. Barry.
The cast features UW-Madison undergraduate students Stuart Mott, Alli Rekow, and Haley Kosup Kennedy and recent UW alumnus Chris Tiernan.

- Saturday, September 17 at 7:30 PM
- Sunday, September 18 at 2:00 PM
Performances will take place in the Mitchell Theatre in Vilas Communications Hall at 821 University Avenue.
Individual tickets for all performances are $22 for the general public and $15 for UW Students. Discounts are available for senior citizens and Friends of University Theatre.
