Three contemporary poets will read selections of their published work accompanied by English translations on October 12 from 2:30-4:30 at the UW French House, 633 North Frances Street. The reading is free and open to the public with a reception immediately following.
The event is part of a series of Poetry Days, organized since 2004 by Professors Ernesto Livorni and Steven Winspur, and falls under a series of events organized by the Department of French and Italian this year under the rubric "Caught Between Languages."
The poets will be: Paolo Valesio, a New York poet originally from Italy; Francois Cornilliat, a writer from New Jersey originally from France; and Mary Shaw, also from New Jersey.
The poets will visit the Department of French and Italian for two days, meeting with students to discuss techniques of translating poetry as well as what led them to write.
