Dr. Susan Thibeault has been named a Fellow by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
The status of Fellow is retained for life and is one of the highest honors ASHA can bestow.
It recognizes professional or scientific achievement and is given to a member who has shown outstanding contribution to the professions-contributions that are significant and would be so regarded within and beyond one's community or state.
ASHA has thousands of members who fulfill their responsibilities competently and well, but only a small percentage have, by virtue of the quality and amount of their contributions, distinguished themselves sufficiently to warrant recognition by election to Fellow in ASHA.
Thibeault will receive the award at the 2011 ASHA Convention which will be held in November 2011 in San Diego, CA.
Thibeault received her M.A. from SUNY - Center at Buffalo in 1992 and her PhD. from UW-Madison in 2001.
She was selected as Mentor of the Year by Wisconsin Speech-Language Pathology Association in 2011; has held an Award for Continuing Education from the ASHA since 2007; received the ASHA Award for Early Career Contributions in Research in 2005; and received an ASHA Graduate Student Scholarship in 2000.
Thibeault is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the Voice and Swallow Clinics, in the Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at University of Wisconsin Madison. Her research interests focus on furthering knowledge of vocal fold biology based upon molecular and genetic methodologies.
