University of Wisconsin-Madison students are renowned for their enthusiasm for Halloween.

One student is already in the Halloween spirit. Leigh Henderson, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Theatre and Drama, is competing on the Food Network's "Halloween Wars," a competition between teams of cake decorators, pumpkin carvers and candy makers. The winning team will win $50,000.

The four-episode series debuted last Sunday, and airs each Sunday through Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. Central time.

Henderson's team, Paranormal, survived the first two eliminations before bowing out in the second-to-last episode - one built around the theme of a mad scientist's creation gone wrong. She is an accomplished cake decorator (and is actually a standout pumpkin carver and candy maker, as well). This fall, Henderson is a teaching assistant for Integrated Liberal Studies 200: Critical Thinking & Expression.
