The Onion, a magazine cooked up by undergrads at UW Madison in the late 1980s, is now famous throughout the world for its satirical take on politics, the media and culture.
Connoisseurs have long suspected that, like its vegetable namesake, The Onion can be peeled layer by layer to reveal deep philosophical truths.
That's why the UW-Madison Philosophy Department is happy to see that Open Court Publishing Company has just published a book called The Onion and Philosophy: Fake News Story True Alleges Indignant Area Professor (Popular Culture and Philosophy)
In fact, the department isn't just happy, but proud! Three of the authors who wrote essays for this book are UW-Madison Philosophy alumni: Sharon Kaye (BA'92), Chris Hallquist (BS'09) and Greg Gilson (BS'89, MA'94, PhD'98).
Kaye, the book's editor, is now a professor at John Carroll University in Cleveland. Hallquist is a graduate student in philosophy at the University of Notre Dame and Gilson is now an Assistant Professor at University of Texas-Pan American.
Congratulations to all three!
