The UW-Madison World Percussion Ensemble is heading to Indianapolis to perform for the Percussive Arts Society International Convention.
It is the only ensemble of its kind to be selected for this honor through the society’s International Percussion Ensemble Competition, sharing pride of place with three college/university and two high school ensembles that perform western music.
The convention is expected to draw about 5,000 percussionists from around the world.
The UW-Madison ensemble will perform a 50-minute showcase concert of music from Brazil, Cuba, India and the Middle East on Thursday, November 11 at 5:00 p.m. at the Indiana Convention Center.
The World Percussion Ensemble includes all percussion majors at the School of Music, from first-year undergraduates to doctoral students.
Anthony Di Sanza, associate professor of percussion and director of the ensemble, will be assisted by Neil Sisauyhoat, adjunct instructor of percussion, and doctoral students Todd Hammes and Tom Ross.
The World Percussion Ensemble will perform its fall concert at home on the UW-Madison campus on Saturday, December 4 at 12:00 noon in the Carol Rennebohm Auditorium of Music Hall.
