The Department of the History of Science is pleased to announce two recent scholarly awards to faculty.
Professor Eric Schatzberg won the 2008 Usher Prize from the Society for the History of Technology. This prize is granted for the best article published during the preceding three years in the Society's journal,Technology and Culture.
This is Schatzberg's second Usher Prize; he is the first person in the award's 48-year history to receive it twice. He previously received the prize for his 2006 article Technik Comes to America: Changing Meanings of Technology Before 1930.
Professor Lynn Nyhart has won the 2009 Susan E. Abrams Prize for the best book in the history of science published by the University of Chicago Press in the previous two years, for Modern Nature: The Rise of the Biological Perspective in Germany (2009).
Nyhart has also been elected Vice President of the History of Science Society and will serve as President in 2012 and 2013.
