On June 19, the College of Letters & Science and the Milwaukee Brewers welcomed L&S alumni of color to [RE]CONNECT the Network, a special Juneteenth celebration at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Guests were invited to cheer on the Brewers as they took on the Arizona Diamondbacks, and to share in fellowship as we work to make L&S a more welcoming and supportive place for our students of color.
Alumni heard from co-hosts Eric M. Wilcots, Dean of the College of Letters & Science, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson (Political Science '09), Milwaukee Municipal Court Chief Judge Phil Chavez (Political Science and Sociology '94, Law '98) and Milwaukee Brewers President of Business Operations, Rick Schlesinger (History and Political Science '83) how L&S is building partnerships throughout the state to ensure students have the industry connections they’ll need to start their careers right here in Wisconsin.
[RE]CONNECT is an ongoing initiative by the College of Letters & Science. The series' first event was held in July, 2022 and represented the first steps toward creating the sense of belonging that many alumni of color say has been missing in their UW-Madison experience. As Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion DeVon Wilson said, “Welcome home. We want you to come back again and again.”
