Jim Kitchell, the Arthur Hasler Professor of Zoology, recently retired.
Kitchell has been a longtime figure on the UW-Madison campus, serving as faculty member in the Department of Zoology and the former Director of the Center for Limnology.
His primary area of research was on predator-prey interactions and their role in food web structure.
His research took him to the Great Lakes, the experimental lakes at the University of Notre Dame Environmental Research Center and the central Pacific.
Earlier this year, Kitchell was named the 2010 winner of the A.C. Redfield Award from the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography.
This lifetime achievement award recognizes his field-changing contributions in the areas of fish ecology and fisheries, trophic dynamics and understanding the role of fish in aquatic ecosystem.
