Political Science professor Byron Shafer is attending the upcoming Republican and Democratic National Conventions - and he'll be blogging daily.
Shafer, who has been at UW-Madison since 2001, has attended every national convention as an observer since 1980. His 1988 book Bifurcated Politics: Evolution and Reform in the National Party Convention is considered the definitive scholarly study on the party conventions.
Shafer will be in Tampa, Fla., for the Republic National Convention, which runs Monday through Thursday. The following week, he'll be in Charlotte, N.C., for the Democratic National Convention, which is Sept. 4-6.
