The College of Letters & Science has more than 800 faculty, a group that includes brilliant researchers, noteworthy authors, and inspiring teachers. This year, the College welcomes more than 50 new faculty members.
From Classics to Chemistry and from English to Economics, departments across L&S recruited emerging experts who bring impressive breadth and depth of scholarship, as well as an abiding enthusiasm for the liberal arts, to the UW-Madison campus.
Of these new hires, 20 were funded through the Madison Initiative for Undergraduates, a campus-wide effort to ensure access to key courses and expose undergraduate students to tenure-track faculty. A further seven were made possible by generous grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that allowed the College to maintain its strong humanities tradition.
