"Buying Into the World of Goods: Early Consumers in Backcountry Virginia (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2008)"
Associate Professor Ann Smart Martin celebrated her 10th Anniversary as Stanley and Polly Stone Professor of Decorative Arts and Material Culture.
Martin's book, "Buying into the World of Goods: Early Consumers in Backcountry Virginia" (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2008), was recognized with awards in two distinct fields:
- The Fred Kniffen Book Award from the Association for the Preservation of Artifacts and Landscapes
- The Hagley Award for the best book in business history in 2009 by the Business History Association
Martin was also elected member of the prestigious American Antiquarian Association. She has played a leading role in developing the interdisciplinary Material Culture Program, serving as founding director since 2004.
