The European Union Center of Excellence (EUCE) is delighted to announce that a team from Madison East High School took first place in the Regional Rounds of the Euro Challenge Competition held at the Chicago Federal Reserve on March 23, 2011.
The Madison East team will now travel to New York for the national finals of the Euro Challenge April 27 where they will be competing against teams from 14 other states.

EUCE has been proud to support Madison East in the competition and congratulates the team and their Faculty Advisor, Mr. Bill Gibson, on their performance.
Now in its 6th year the Euro Challenge is an exciting educational opportunity for high school students to learn about the European Union (EU) and the euro.
Student teams consisting of 9th and 10th graders are asked to make presentations answering specific questions about the European economy and the single currency. They are also asked to pick one member country of the "euro area" to examine an economic problem at the country level, and to identify policies for responding to that problem.
The Madison East team (Scout Slava-Ross, Amelia Soth, Erin Barry, Miriam Plane, Seth Lesondak and Graham Highdale) chose to discuss the issues of globalization with specific reference to France.
After a fifteen minute presentation, the team had ten minutes to respond to questions from a panel of judges.
Madison East secured its victory in a tense and exciting final round having faced stiff competition from teams from Illinois, Iowa and Indiana.
