Assistant Professors Snezana Stanimirovic (Astronomy) and Robert McDermott (Physics) have individually been named 2009 Cottrell Scholars by the Research Corporation for Science Advancement.
Stanimirovic and McDermott were two of 10 receipients this year and will each receive a grant of $100,000 for science and teaching.
- Stanimirovic is working to assemble three small radio telescopes (SRTs) and use them to create an Astronomical Observation Laboratory (AOL) at UW. Her goal is to infuse introductory courses with hands-on learning at the AOL.
- McDermott plans to upgradeand expand UW-Madison's Physics Advanced Laboratory course and develop an undergraduate course on experimental quantum information. He will also work with local high-school teachers to develop teaching materials for key concepts in satellite communications.
Congratulations to both!
