School of Music Professor of Composition Laura Schwendinger's work, “C’e la luna questa sera?” (“Is There a Moon Tonight?”) was featured in a new CD by the Lincoln Trio.
The album, Notable Women, focuses on the works of contemporary female composers and is available from Presto Classical and Naxos.
This album is the world premier recording of the piece, which was also presented on a program at the Ravinia Festival this past summer.
Music critic Dorothy Andries described “C’e la luna questa sera?” in her review of the August 19th, 2011 Ravinia program, stating "Schwendinger finds moonlight serene, ethereal and otherworldly.
She charges the violin with creating the light, the piano with evoking the rippling waters of Lake Como and the cello suggesting the water’s depth."
In addition to teaching composition at UW-Madison, Schwendinger directs the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble.
