The Language Institute is pleased to announce its 2011-12 lecture series, Cosmpolitanism and Language.
Talks in the series will consider the ways in which language defines and perpetuates community in ways that challenge a static notion of nationhood.
Speakers will consider how language choice, group discourse, and linguistic and cultural identity contribute to notions of citizenship at the global level.

- Global Hip-Hop Nation Language: Race, Métissage and the Semiotic of Globalization, Awad Ibrahim, University of Ottowa. 4:00 pm, Monday, November 7, 2011. Comments from Ronald Radano, School of Music.
- Intersecting Scapes, Global Linguistic Flows, and New Millennium Hybridities, Christina Higgins, University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Monday, March 12, 2012.
- Cosmopolitanism from Behind: Language, Identity and Critical Genealogy, Lynn Mario T. Menezes de Souza, University of São Paulo. 5:00 pm, Tuesday, April, 2012.
All lectures are scheduled to take place in 254 Van Hise Hall, 1220 Linden Drive.
