Stephen J. A. Ward, Burgess Professor of Journalism Ethics, published two books in April in the new field of global media ethics.
In Global Journalism Ethics (McGill-Queen’s University Press), Ward lays out the philosophical foundations of a global ethics for journalism. Ward argues that journalism ethics must be re-constructed on a cosmopolitan ethics where the ultimate moral allegiances are to a global humanity and global social justice.
In a second book, Media Ethics Beyond Borders(Routledge), Ward and Herman Wasserman of the University of Sheffield co-edit a collection of articles that explore the possibility of universal ethical principles and show how principles are in different ways across media cultures.
Ward is director of the Center for Journalism Ethics in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
