Harvey M. Jacobs, professor Urban and Regional Planning, continued the University of Wisconsin's-Madison's long-standing, 40-year-old relationship with the International Center for Land Policy Studies and Training (formerly the Land Reform Training Institute) in Taiwan this year.
In September, Jacobs served as a one-week lecturer at the Center as part of their six week short course on Land Policy for Sustainable Rural Development. He has served in a similar capacity for 15 years.
His students were mid-career professionals from developing and transition countries: 26 students from 23 countries this year.
While in Taiwan, Jacobs was also the inaugural speaker at the new campus of National Taipei University’s Department of Real Estate and the Built Environment. He spoke on "The Bark is Worse than the Bite: Legal and Social Conflict Over Expropriation after the U.S. Supreme Court's Kelo Decision."
