Professor Harvey Jacobs of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning was an invited participant in several domestic and international conferences in November.
He was on the opening panel of the national Future Cities 2009 conference held in Madison. A copy of his remarks — "The Strains on Progressive Cities" — is available online.
Jacobs was also on an "experts panel" convened by the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and the Sonoran Instituteand held at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The panel discussed the topic of premature and obsolete — so-called "zombie" — subdivisions in the inter-mountain west.
Lastly, Jacobs was the keynote speaker at a training conference in Gabes, Tunisia under invitation from de l’Institut de la Recherche Agronomique(INRA, Avignon, France). His talk was titled "Private Property and Public Governance of Natural Resources."
