Four scholars from the University of Wisconsin-Madison's College of Letters & Science have received 2015 fellowships from the American Council of Learned Societies.
The recipients (and their research projects) are:
- Mattie Burkert (Doctoral Candidate, English) - Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowship; "Speculative Enterprise: Public Finance and the London Theater, 1688-1763"
- Emily Callaci (Assistant Professor, History) - ACLS Fellowship; "Ujamaa Urbanists: Street Archives and City Life in Socialist Tanzania"
- Linda Chhath (Doctoral Candidate, Languages and Cultures of Asia) - The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Dissertation Research Fellowship in Buddhist Studies; "Ethics of Independence: Buddhist Cosmopolitanism in Cambodia, 1953-1970"
- Anthony Lovenheim Irwin (Doctoral Candidate, Religions of Asia) - The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Dissertation Research Fellowship in Buddhist Studies; "Building Buddhism in Chiang Rai, Thailand: Construction as Religion"
Since 1957, more than 9,500 scholars have held ACLS fellowships and grants. ACLS fellowships and grants are awarded to individual scholars for excellence in research in the humanities and related social sciences.
