The history and future of electron microscopy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison will collide on Sept. 28, with the help of the College of Letters & Science.
UW-Madison will host the Hans Ris Symposium on 3D Electron Microscopy at the Microbial Sciences Building's Ebling Auditorium. The event honors Ris (1914-2004), a former Professor of Zoology at UW-Madison and the founding director of the High Voltage Electron Microscopy Resource at the University.
The symposium will celebrate electron microscopy's history, with a lecture from Eldon Newcomb, Emeritus Professor of Botany, before looking ahead to the future. That future includes a new, recently-installed electron microscope in the Materials Science Center that was purchased with a National Science Foundation grant along with support from the College of Letters & Science.
The event - organized by Marisa Otegui, Associate Professor of Botany, and Kevin Eliceiri, director of the Laboratory for Optical and Computational Instrumentation - runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, check out the full event schedule.
