Eleven current History Department faculty members have won Guggenheim Fellowships. They join seventeen emeriti history faculty members who have also received the award.

In addition to the seventeen Guggenheims awarded in the field of African History, five were won by UW faculty and six by UW History PhDs.

Often called the “premier mid-career scholarly award” Guggenheim Fellowships are awarded "to men and women who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability."
