Josh Bycel (BA'93, History) is known around Hollywood as a successful executive producer, having worked on hit shows like Scrubs and Happy Endings.
But Bycel is also making a difference outside of the television industry, having co-founded the nonprofit OneKid OneWorld in 2005. The Wisconsin Homecoming Committee, in partnership with the Wisconsin Union Directorate Distinguished Lecture Series, will honor Bycel for his charitable work with a Wisconsin Rewind Lecture on Thursday, Oct. 25 in Memorial Union's Tripp Commons.
Bycel co-founded OneKid OneWorld after volunteering on a humanitarian trip to Darfur. The nonprofit rebuilds schools in Kenya and El Salvador and brings fresh water and solar power to these rural areas.
OneKid OneWorld’s goal is to provide an education to children in impoverished communities through the creation of academic and athletic programs. OneKid OneWorld ensures the sustainability of these programs by rebuilding schools using green technologies and forging partnerships with U.S. students, instilling in them a lifelong commitment to social responsibility.
Since 2006, OneKid OneWorld has raised more than $750,000, with more than 93 percent going directly to its projects. Its work has directly affected the lives of more than 5,000 students.
