Cricket may not be as popular as football in the United States, but the sport isn't lost on all at UW-Madison.
To celebrate the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, South Asian students organized to watch the matches from afar.
The Cricket World Cup, played February 19 – April 2, 2011, was co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh and was played in each of these South Asian countries.
To watch the matches, students had to wake up at 3am to accommodate the time difference.
But the darkness didn't dim the spirits of those watching the action from halfway around the world, especially the Pakistani students dressed in green and white and Indian students in blue and orange who joined each other to cheer on their respective teams.
The South Asian teams dominated the action on the pitch with India defeating Sri Lanka in the final on April 2. India had previously defeated Pakistan in the semi-final match on March 30.
The Center for South Asia would like to congratulate all of the teams and all of the fans who cheered them on.
