Five University of Wisconsin–Madison students continued UW’s legacy of winning top honors at Annual Midwest Japanese Language Speech Contest hosted by the Consulate General of Japan at Chicago. Among the UW-Madison winners were:
- Seung Ho Lee (Grand Prize)
- Melinda Sarnicki (First Prize in Category 4—students with more than one year of Japanese)
- Jing Zhu (Second Prize in Category 3—students with less than one year of Japanese)
- Alaina Werkhoven (Third Prize in Category 4) and Rachel Anderson Rynders (Third Prize in Category 3)
