Nancy Castignetti: Judith H. and David J. Ward Scholarship
Nancy Castignetti received her undergraduate degree from Loyola University Chicago, then went on to work in various jobs including: vocational instruction to mentally ill adults in Chicago, IL; educational administration in Rome, Italy, and Milwaukee, WI; and a full-time long term volunteer position working with political refugees in New Orleans, LA. After earning a Master's of Education from Marquette University, Castignetti continued on to UW-Madison to pursue a Master's of Science in Communicative Disorders. Her future career goal is to provide early speech, language and literacy intervention to children of urban and low socioeconomic populations.
Kim Falkenstein: Jack Kile Scholarship
Kim Falkenstein is a 2nd year graduate student in the Doctor of Audiology program at UW-Madison. She graduated from Miami University in 1992 with a B.A. in American Studies and from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997 with an M.P.H in Health Behavior and Health Education. She is also the proud mother of an amazing 9-year old son.
Marie Jette: Stanley Ewanowski Scholarship
Marie Jette is a third-year PhD student in Communicative Disorders. She earned her Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in 2006 and her Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Speech Sciences and Linguistics from the University of British Columbia in 2003. She is currently a Predoctoral Fellow working with Dr. Susan Thibeault in the Department of Surgery. Her research focuses on the immunological properties associated with chronic laryngitis.
Suzanne King: Vicki Lord Larson and James R. Larson Research Grant
Suzanne earned her master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from University of Central Florida in 2009. She is currently a pre-doctoral trainee in the Division of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck under the mentorship Susan Thibeault, PhD. Her research investigates the pathogenesis of vocal fold scar and immunomodulatory properties of mesenchymal stromal cell based therapies for vocal fold tissue regeneration.
Phoebe Natzke: Judy Kulpa Scholarship
Phoebe Natzke received her Bachelor’s degree in Communicative Disorders from UW-Madison in 2008, and her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from UW-Madison in 2010. She is currently a second year PhD student in the Department of Communicative Disorders at UW-Madison, and works in the Speech Intelligibility and Communication Development Lab at the Waisman Center. Her research focuses on developing a prosodic profile for patients with motor speech disorders. Natzke is also currently in the final stage of her Clinical Fellowship at Verona Area High School, where she works with students with a variety of neurological impairments.
