The European Union Center of Excellence at the University of Wisconsin-Madison has announced its selection of two high school social studies teachers for the summer 2014 Teacher Study Abroad Program in Brussels, Belgium.
Pamela Routhier of Whitefish Bay High School and Kathleen Marien of Reedsburg Area High School will participate in a week-long program that includes briefings at the European Commission and the Council of Ministers, NATO Headquarters, European Parliament, and the U.S. Mission to the EU.
The program allows Wisconsin teachers to develop their understanding of the European Union, its institutions, and the current issues facing the member states, and to bring fresh information back to their world history and advanced placement modern European history classes.
This is the sixth year in a row that the EUCE has sent Wisconsin educators to Brussels. Past participants have come from high schools in Wales, Wisconsin Rapids, Verona, McFarland, Peshtigo, Marshfield, and Madison, among other cities. The program is sponsored by the UW-Madison EUCE and the European Union.
