The Center for Journalism Ethics will work with journalists and journalism associations to produce guidelines for the new non-profit centers of investigative journalism.
Over the past year, many centers have been established based on money from individual donors and foundations, and relying on the collaboration of many types of journalists.
On Jan. 29, the center, directed by Stephen J. A. Ward, will co-host a roundtable of leaders in non-profit investigative journalism.
The roundtable will produce a ground-breaking public document detailing correct practices surrounding such issues as conflicts with donors.
The other hosts of the roundtable are the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism and Brant Houston, Knight Chair in Investigative Journalism at the University of Illinois-Urbana.
The roundtable document will be developed further at the 2nd Annual Journalism Ethics Conference on April 30, 2010. The conference is staged by the Center for Journalism Ethics in the UW School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
