Penguin Books, SA has published a debut novel "Nairobi Heat" by Mukoma Wa Ngugi, a dissertator in the English Department.

"Nairobi Heat," set in Madison, Wisconsin and Kenya, is about an African American detective investigating an African who is the main suspect in the murder of a white woman.

Mukoma is also the author of a collection of poems "Hurling Words at Consciousness" (AWP, 2006) and is a political columnist for the BBC Focus on Africa Magazine.

The book will be released October 1, 2009.
