An installation from "Dynasty and Divinity: Ife Art in Ancient Nigeria" which opened in Spain in June.
Henry Drewal, Evjue-Bascom Professor in the Departments of Art History and Afro-American Studies, gave the public lecture and wrote the catalogue for the major international traveling exhibition "Dynasty and Divinity: Ife Art in Ancient Nigeria" that opened at the Fundacion Marcelino Botin in Santander, Spain on June 17.
The exhibition displays more than 100 12th-15th century bronze, terra cotta, and stone sculptures from the Yoruba city-state of Ife, all on loan from the Nigerian National Commission for Museums and Monuments.
After Santander, the exhibit will travel to Madrid, the British Museum, and then several venues in the United States in 2010-11.
