Dr. Lyn Turkstra, Associate Professor in the UW-Madison Department of Communicative Disorders, has been named the Mentor of the Year by the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
This award will be presented at the Wisconsin Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Association 2011 State Conference President's Reception on February 25th in Stevens Point, WI.
Turkstra is a member of the Neuroscience Training Program and holds an affiliate appointment in the Department of Surgery, Division of Neurological Surgery, at UW-Madison.
Her research focus is on the relationship between cognition and communication, particularly for adolescents and young adults with traumatic brain injury. Dr. Turkstra has published extensively on cognitive and communication function after TBI, and has worked clinically with survivors of TBI for 20 years. She is board certified by the Academy of Neurological Communication Disorders and Sciences (ANCDS) and is a member of the ANCDS writing committee on Practice Guidelines for Cognitive-Communication Disorders after Traumatic Brain Injury.
