Donald Downs, professor of political science, has received a Named Professorship from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Graduate School.
The Named Professorship is the school’s highest honor.
Downs chose to name his professorship after Alexander Meiklejohn, the founder of the University of Wisconsin's Experimental College (1927-1932).
Meiklejohn also dedicated a significant part of his career to the academic study of free speech.
Downs' research interests include law and politics, political theory, civil liberties and academic freedom.
