The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, at its annual Meeting November 5-8, 2009, awarded John DeLamater, Conway-Bascom Professor of Sociology, the SSSS Distinguished Service Award.
DeLamater is the 15th recipient since it was first given in 1985. The award is "granted to recognize a professional for outstanding contributions to the Society."
Among the many roles DeLamater has filled are multiple terms as a member of the Board of Directors, President of the MidContinent Region, Chair of the Sexology PhD. Task Force and Chair of the Society's web committee.
It was also announced at the meeting that, of all the articles published in the Journal of Sex Research from 2005 to 2008 (about 35 per year), DeLamater's article, "Sexual desire in later life" (2005) co-authored with sociology student, Morgan Sill, is the most frequently cited.
