On May 8, the UW-System Regents approved the Madison Initiative for Undergraduates. With the exception of one abstention, all of the votes were "yes." Both myself and Chancellor Martinappeared before the board to advocate for the initiative and many of you were instrumental in getting this initiative approved.
I want to thank everyone for your support and advocacy. You were critical to getting this initiative passed. Thank you.
As many of you know, the College of Letters & Science has lost faculty positions during the past several budget cuts; at the same time, our undergraduate enrollments and service to other schools and colleges continues to grow. The Madison Initiative for Undergraduates represents a significant step toward acknowledging the importance of the college and its need for faculty lines.
