Churness
Kim Churness, a second-year graduate student in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at UW-Madison, has won a highly competitive national graduate student scholarship from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation.
The ASHFoundation awards up to 20 $5,000 general graduate student scholarships each year. Churness is the third UW-Madison student in the past three years to receive one of the coveted scholarships.
Churness, who works part time in Professor of Medicine JoAnne Robbins' lab at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital as a research assistant, will present at the 2013 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association National Convention next week.
After graduation, Churness hopes to work with patients who have suffered a cerebral vascular accident or traumatic brain injury resulting in disorders of communication, cognition, and swallowing.
