Nadine Connor, an Associate Professor in the Department of Communicative Disorders and the Department of Surgery, has been named Chair of the School of Medicine and Public Health Animal Care and Use Committee.
As chair, Connor's duties include leading and managing meetings of the SMPH ACUC, reviewing protocols, performing semiannual inspections of animal activity areas, participating in semiannual program reviews, and otherwise fulfilling the legal and ethical responsibilities required of ACUCs by federal regulations.
Connor will also perform pre- and post-meeting follow-up with principal investigators; author correspondence to NIH Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare as needed; participate in campus-wide discussions and implementation of animal care and use policy through monthly All Campus Animal Planning and Advisory Committee meetings; and assist SMPH principal investigators with regulatory compliance and animal welfare issues.
Connor teaches graduate-level courses in research and voice disorders to students pursuing M.S. degrees in speech-language pathology, and serves as research director in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Her research interests involve the effects of aging on the upper aerodigestive tract and how exercise may be used as treatment for decrements in function.
