The Computer Sciences Department is very pleased to welcome three new faculty who will be joining us in the fall of 2009.
Professor Bilge Mutlu (Ph.D., Carnegie Mellon Univ) does interdisciplinary research in the design, implementation, and evaluation of socially interactive systems and robots, with applications to computer-mediated communication, computer-supported collaborative work, and education. He will also launch new CS curriculum in human-computer interaction.
Professor Chris Re' (Ph.D., Univ of Washington) does research in managing large collections of uncertain data (e.g. the Web), with applications that include data integration, top-k and other information extraction, and sensor-based system monitoring. He will help us launch a new curriculum in Web science.
Professor Ben Recht (Ph.D., MIT) does interdisciplinary research in identifying behavior from highly incomplete and noisy data, with applications that include predicting social network patterns to diagnosing the onset of inflammation in trauma patients. Recht will add exciting new expertise and applications to our optimization and machine learning curricula.
