UW-Madison L&S Student Council Meeting, 1952-53 (Madison, WI)

Are you planning a department anniversary? Hosting a retirement event for an esteemed faculty or staff member? Coordinating a reunion?

The UW Archives and Records Management division is ready to assist you in commemorating and preserving your event in a variety of ways.  Archives staff can help you research the history of a person, department, building or event on campus.

They’ll need some basic information to get started such as personal names, dates, campus locations, and department or field of study.  Their staff can also provide copies of photos, audio or other archival materials to enhance your special celebration.  These historic materials may be repurposed to use in slide shows, on Web sites or printed materials, or as reprints to enhance your event.

If you are planning a department celebration, consider partnering with the UW Archives to collect stories and photos that document your department’s history.  In conjunction with your event, Archives staff can assist by coordinating short oral history interviews and/or on-site scanning of historic photos or other memorabilia shared by your guests.

Finally, preserve the memory of your occasion for future generations by donating to the UW Archives, copies of photos, video or other materials created to enhance or document the event. Examples include slide shows, video recordings of key note or commemorative speeches, event publicity or even informal photos taken by guests.

Archives staff will process and add the materials to existing archival collections.

The University Archives and Records Management division is the official repository for permanent historical records of UW-Madison. They collect and preserve records of historic value and serve as an educational resource encouraging research in the collections.
