For the 2024 version of our annual summer book recommendations, we’re collecting some sizzling works written by faculty, staff and alumni of the College of Letters & Science.

Erin Hale from the Department of Chemistry and Brendon Panke from the Center for Healthy Minds, both received 2024 University Staff Recognition Awards, recognized for achievements in building collegiality with colleagues and students, dedication to craft, problem-solving, improving workplace culture and demonstrating leadership.

Awards honor faculty and staff who have demonstrated exemplary performance both in terms of their positive impact on students and through distinctive contributions to their department, unit, and/or the College of Letters & Science.

The awards honor staff members for their excellence in effectiveness, innovation, creativity, originality, leadership, climate, and service to the university.

Six receive L&S Academic Staff Award honors in three categories: Early Career, Mid-Career, and the Judith Craig Distinguished Service Award.

Botanist and professor Simon Gilroy and Haddie McLean, manager of The Wonders of Physics, have received this year’s Bassam Z. Shakhashiri Public Science Engagement Awards. The awards recognize one UW faculty member and one academic staff member for their work engaging the public in science, technology, engineering, arts and math.

24 exceptional L&S graduate students have been selected as recipients of the 2023-24 Campus-Wide Teaching Assistant Awards, recognizing their strengths and commitment surrounding the craft of teaching.
