The weather outside has been a bit frightful, but inside the Botany Greenhouse in Birge Hall the weather is delightful!
The greenhouses are frequently visited by students and community groups. Recently, a group of students from the Madison Community Jewish Day School visited for a tour and to learn more about plants.
Dr. Mo Fayyaz, the greenhouse director, took the group around the greenhouses, giving them a chance to see plants up close and personal.
The students saw plants that are important to our economy, including cotton, citrus, papyrus and bananas. They also experimented with some of the greenhouse's more unusual inhabitants: the Venus's Fly Trap and the Titum arum (the corpse flower).
Fayyaz gives a tour about once a week and has been for the past 27 years.
