Summer has arrived and so have the kids all sorts of kids participating day camps, overnight camps, workshops, fieldtrips.
UW-Madison is a hub for learning -- from programs like "College for Kids" and sports camps at Camp Randall, to science-themed classes and sailing with the Hoofers Club.
For decades, the School of Music has hosted the Summer Music Clinic for middle and high school-aged students from around the state and beyond.
These youngsters take part in band, orchestra, jazz and choral ensembles and receive individual and group instruction from renowned local and guest faculty.
This June, the University Archives presents “University of Wisconsin Youth Music Programs (1930s-1970s),” a selection of historic photos hosted in Flickr that celebrate these programs and their participants including Midwinter and Summer Music Clinic/Camp, State Solo and Ensemble Competitions and Performances, and All-State Chorus, Band and Orchestra.

Thanks to the School of Music for inspiring many generations of young musicians and filling the corridors of Humanities with some great tunes!
Next time you see a budding Yo Yo Ma dragging his or her instrument across Park Street, give them a hand. Or better yet, take time to attend a youth concert and applaud their commitment to musicianship.
