Journalism Professor Stephen J. A. Ward, director of the Center for Journalism Ethics, led a lively discussion among UW alumni and leading journalists on "The Survival of Good Journalism" in the Detroit area February 20.
About 50 Badgers plus journalists such as Jon Wolman, editor and publisher of The Detroit News, discussed the impact of new media on journalism, and how journalists should maintain ethical standards in a time of swift change to the profession.
Also attending was Paul Anger, editor of the Detroit Free Press.
Over the past year, Ward has been leading public discussions on journalism across America to raise awareness of the school’s new Center for Journalism Ethics at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at UW-Madison.
The latest session was held in Royal Oak, north of downtown Detroit, as part of Founders’ Day celebrations staged by UW alumni in Detroit, with support from the UW Foundation and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
The next talk to UW alumni will be May 15 in Minneapolis.
