Over the course of this year’s 24-hour Fill the Hill campaign, alumni, faculty, staff, parents, students and friends rallied in support of L&S. The L&S Annual Fund raised more than $32,000 thanks to the generosity of 154 donors, both new records for this campaign. Overall, College of Letters & Science units received more than $185,000 to support the Badger student experience.
“When you give to the College of Letters & Science, you make a direct investment in students, faculty and discovery,” says Eric M. Wilcots, Dean of the College of Letters & Science and Mary C. Jacoby Professor of Astronomy. “Gifts to the L&S Annual Fund provide flexible resources that help us respond to new opportunities, support teaching and research excellence, and ensure that students have access to a world-class liberal arts education.”
Campus-wide, UW–Madison raised more than $750,000 from 4,474 gifts, both new records for this beloved tradition.
Now in its 13th year, Fill the Hill honors the 1979 prank by Jim Mallon (’79) and Stu Baker (’80), members of the student government Pail and Shovel Party, who blanketed Bascom Hill with 1,008 pink lawn flamingos. Since its founding as campus’s annual fall fundraiser, Fill the Hill has raised more than $4 million to support campus activities.
