The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Physics will host the 32nd annual presentation of "The Wonders of Physics," featuring Professor Emeritus Clint Sprott, next month.
This year's theme is "The Laws of Physics," and, as usual, the fun-filled educational presentation is intended for people of all ages.
The full schedule for the presentations — in 2103 Chamberlin Hall, 1150 University Avenue — is as follows:
- Saturday, Feb. 7: 1, 4 and 7 p.m.
- Sunday, Feb. 8: 1 and 4 p.m.
- Saturday, Feb. 14: 1, 4 and 7 p.m.
- Sunday, Feb. 15: 1 and 4 p.m.
Presentations last a little more than an hour. Admission is free, but advanced tickets are recommended and can be obtained online. Alternately, you may call 608-262-2927 or e-mail wonders@physics.wisc.edu.
Additionally, the physics department's eighth annual Physics Fair will run concurrently with the "Wonders of Physics" presentations on Saturday, Feb. 14. The open house, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Chamberlin Hall, will allow visitors to learn about ongoing physics research and education in the department. The event is free and open to the public, with no tickets required.
The Physics Fair will include laboratory tours, hands-on demonstrations, activities for kids and families, and informal conversations with scientists. Exhibits represent research groups in the department, as well as displays on more general physics topics. Additionally, the Ingersoll Physics Museum will be open for exploration.
