Shaun Marcott

Department of Geoscience

Shaun Marcott is an Associate Professor in the  Department of Geoscience, working on a number of different projects that involve paleoclimatology, glacial geology, geochemistry, and statistical modeling. He received his PhD from Oregon State University and his professional interests span a broad range of geological and climatological questions that typically encompass the last 100,000 years. He considers himself an Earth Scientist, which is reflected in his research interests and education in geology, oceanography, and mathematics. He works on new approaches to long standing problems in glacial geology and paleoclimatology. He works with a number of paleoclimate archives including glacial deposits, marine sediment cores and ice cores, and uses statistical models to evaluate large data sets. He is also beginning a new paleoclimate and glacial geology program in Wisconsin and is expanding his research group.

A word from Brad Singer, Chair of the Geoscience Department:
On behalf of the entire Department of Geoscience, I warmly congratulate Dr. Shaun Marcott on his promotion to Associate Professor with tenure this year. Shaun’s highly cited research on glacial landscapes and past climate is vital to our Department’s leadership on the critical topic of global climate change. Moreover, Shaun has excelled in communication and teaching at all levels, and in service to the Department and his profession. Shaun is a mover and shaker who has established himself as a valued colleague and asset to the university. We look forward to the next of his many accomplishments, and wish Shaun and his family all the best.
