Curb Magazine, a publication produced by students in the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Journalism and Mass Communication, was named best student magazine in the country by the Society of Professional Journalists.

SPJ's 2014 Mark of Excellence Awards honor the best of collegiate journalism within the calendar year and are chosen from the category winners in each of SPJ's 12 regions.

Jim Dayton, a third-year journalism student, was a national finalist in the sports column writing category.

Curb also took home top honors in 2012. Its 2014 edition focused on the relationships between the people of Wisconsin and the state's land. UW-Madison undergraduate journalism students have produced the magazine every fall since 2002 as part of a course in which they report, write and edit stories and design and promote the publication.
