Zumbrunnen Zumbrunnen

John Zumbrunnen, a professor of political science in the University of Wisconsin-Madison's College of Letters & Science, is one of three recipients of the UW System's 2015 Alliant Energy Underkofler Excellence in Teaching Award.

Zumbrunnen teaches, studies and writes on the history of political thought, democratic theory, American political thought and the philosophy of social science. He is also the director of the American Democracy Forum, a program devoted to the study of the principles and practice of American political thought.

Earlier this spring, he received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Alpha of Wisconsin chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

The $2,500 Underkofler awards, funded by an endowment from Alliant Energy in honor of the company’s late former chairman and CEO James R. Underkofler, recognize extraordinary teachers at UW System schools within Alliant's service area.

Zumbrunnen and the other two UW System recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony Oct. 30 at the Pyle Center.
