Awards

Corinda Rainey-Moore (B.A.;87, Communication Arts), a woman described as a true leader and champion for segments of society who have had doors slammed on them, and whose advocacy for the mentally ill has helped bring people out of the shadows, has won the 2017 ATHENA Award.

Twelve faculty members have been chosen to receive this year’s Distinguished Teaching Awards, an honor given out since 1953 to recognize the university’s finest educators. Nine of those faculty members teach in the College of Letters & Science.

Eleven promising young members of the UW–Madison faculty have been honored with Romnes Faculty Fellowships. Five of these faculty members are in L&S.

UW-Madison graduate programs are ranked among the nation's best in the 2018 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "Best Graduate Schools." This year, the Economics, English, History, Library & Information Studies, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology ranked highly.

La Follette School Professor David Weimer will receive the prestigious Hilldale Award in the Social Studies. The honor recognizes excellence in teaching, research, and service.

Ten members of the University of Wisconsin–Madison faculty have been appointed to Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) named professorships in 2017. Seven of those faculty members are L&S professors.

The Wisconsin Alumni Association recognizes eight alumni under the age of 40 who are leveraging the benefits of their UW education to better their cities, states, nation and the world. Six of these outstanding citizens are L&S alumni.

L&S Professor of Sociology Joan Fujimura is one of six recipients of UW-Madison's Outstanding Women of Color Awards. The honorees exemplify being deeply rooted in both the campus and the community through their service, research and community building.

Professor of Mathematics Steven Sam one of two UW-Madison recipients of a 2017 Sloan Research Fellowship, which recognizes and provides resources for researchers early in their careers. Professor of Neuroscience Darcie Moore from the School of Medicine and Public Health also received a fellowship.
