Three L&S students win Dean’s Prizes
The College of Letters & Science is proud to announce that three L&S students have earned Dean’s Prizes, an honor awarded annually to outstanding scholars in the senior class.
UW-Madison doctoral candidates selected as Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholars
Regina Fuller (Educational Policy Studies), Amy Jones (Sociology), and Josefina Flores Morales (Sociology) share a commitment to doing scholarship that impacts health and well-being for communities across the globe. In 2016, these UW–Madison graduate students became part of the inaugural, nationwide cohort of Health Policy Research Scholars supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Society of American Historians honors William Cronon for literary merit in historical writing
The 10th annual Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. Award for distinguished writing in American history of enduring public significance, given jointly with the Roosevelt Institute, is presented to William Cronon, the Frederick Jackson Turner and Vilas Research Professor of History, Geography, and Environmental Studies.
Cap Times’ Evjue Foundation awards more than $300,000 to UW programs
The Capital Times’ charitable arm, The Evjue Foundation, is awarding $322,500 in grants to 30 different programs at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In addition to the 30 grants for UW, the foundation’s directors also approved $1,166,500 in grants to 82 community projects. In total, The Evjue Foundation is awarding nearly $1.5 million to better the community.
Celebrating teaching excellence
On May 16th, when many faculty and students are putting the semester behind them and looking toward summer, a community of dedicated faculty, staff, and administrators joined together to honor 18 Assistant Professors graduating from the Madison Teaching and Learning Excellence (MTLE) program.
30-year collaboration earns UW climatologist China’s top science honor
University of Wisconsin–Madison climatologist John Kutzbach has been awarded China’s highest scientific honor for foreigners in recognition of 30 years of collaboration that has advanced both American and Chinese climate science.
Chemistry professor honored for early-career teaching and research
Randall Goldsmith, a University of Wisconsin–Madison assistant professor of chemistry, is among the 13 U.S. early-career faculty members in the chemical sciences to win a 2017 Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award.
UW-Madison Arts Institute to honor 2017 Awards in the Creative Arts recipients
Each spring, the Arts Institute recognizes achievements and professional service along with supporting future creative endeavors and research. L&S honorees are Ron Kuka from the English Department's Creative Writing Program and Beverly Taylor from the Mead Witter School of Music.
Alumni honored with Entrepreneurial Achievement Award
UW-Madison’s annual Entrepreneurial Achievement Awards Thursday were given to two alumni — Michele Boal and Troy Vosseller — for their entrepreneurial success and commitment to encouraging the next generation of entrepreneurs.
